With thorough research into previous engineering studies and calculations, Koth Consulting refined past engineering assumptions by others and extended the analysis to eliminate the need for extensive stormwater management on a site in Doswell, Virginia. By eliminating the need for stormwater storage (a pond or underground facility), what seemed to be an unrealistic goal of placing three hotels on a small site was made into reality.
Koth Consulting’s review of previous engineering calculations highlights an unsettling tendency in engineering to use conservative assumptions without realizing the impact on land use. Engineers are increasingly relying on software to design for them without realizing the conservative assumptions often built into the programs that are unnecessarily costing owners significant money and often usable space in a project. Be certain that the engineer that is performing the work for your project is qualified and is an expert in the critical aspects of the project. Simply knowing how to run the software without thorough understanding of the systems can result in costly and unnecessary construction costs.

In
2005, Koth Consulting P.C. was created with a vision of improvng engineering and
consulting. Since then, we, have worked with developers, architects, consultants, and government agencies to serve our clients and to continually enhance our
consulting services. We continue to work to improve our design, management and consulting
skills. Even with all the positive feedback we receive from our
clients and peers, we believe there is always room to improve. We also believe that
we can help improve consulting practices throughout our industry by sharing knowledge, ideas, and strategies with our peers.
We
are excited to share our insights and consulting strategies with the consulting
community through continuing education classes. We have been working with North
Carolina and Virginia licensing boards to ensure our classes meet the
requirements for the continuing education of licensed professionals.
Throughout our discussions with our peers, we have found a universal concern that continuing education opportunities are limited in value and can be expensive and inconvenient. Like you, we have been frustrated by online classes that seem to provide more sales presentation than education. As a result, we felt compelled to develop a curriculum that will have value to consultants, be affordable to smaller businesses and individuals, and be convenient for participants.
We will continue to develop classes and curriculum and look forward to your feedback about what classes or conferences you would like to see included in our curriculum.
